Dr. Giriraj Bora

Dr. Giriraj Bora is a distinguished Indian surgeon specializing in liver transplantation, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), and gastrointestinal surgery. He currently holds the position of Chief of Liver Transplant and Senior Consultant in GI & HPB Surgery at Artemis Hospitals in Gurugram, India. 

Born on January 1, 1975, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Dr. Bora received his medical education at J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer, where he obtained his MBBS and MS degrees. He specialized further by obtaining an MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology from G.B. Pant Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, in 2008. To specialize further in liver transplantation, he completed a fellowship at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in 2011. 

During his illustrious career, Dr. Bora has played a pivotal role in developing liver transplant procedures in India. He conducted the first successful liver transplant in Rajasthan and is responsible for both the first living donor and deceased donor liver transplants in the state. His vast experience includes participation in more than 1,500 liver transplants and a variety of complex gastrointestinal surgeries.

For his major contributions, Dr. Bora was awarded by Rajasthan’s Chief Minister for conducting the state’s first liver transplant. He has also received international awards, such as the International Liver Transplant Society Travel Award in 2012 at San Francisco and the Young Investigator Award for the society’s 2013 conference held in Sydney.

Dr. Bora’s commitment to his profession is also reflected by his active engagement in research, with several publications and presentations at national and international conferences. His areas of particular interest are safe donor surgery for liver transplantation, liver resections for hepatocellular carcinoma, combined liver-kidney transplantation, and pancreatic surgeries like the Whipple procedure.
