Nephrology is a specialized branch of medical science that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and management of kidney diseases. The success rate of kidney transplants in India is over 90% for living donor transplants and around 85% for deceased donor transplants.
The surgery usually takes 3-4 hours, followed by post-operative monitoring and recovery.
Patients with end-stage kidney disease who are medically fit for surgery and have a compatible donor are eligible for a kidney transplant.
A kidney from a living donor can last 15-20 years, while a deceased donor kidney lasts around 10-15 years on average.
Patients must follow a strict post-transplant care plan, including immunosuppressive medication, regular check-ups, and a healthy lifestyle.
